At this time of year, with the afternoons still getting steadily darker and the temperatures dropping, it’s more important than ever to feel cosy and warm at home. Few clients think to ask about under-floor heating in those few exciting days of a British heatwave, but come Autumn and Winter we field constant questions about how our floors are compatible with under-floor heating and how necessary it is. It was almost a week ago now that we headed north for the annual Resin Flooring Association Awards, and after a very busy week there’s finally time to reflect on our success! The awards ceremony features as a regular date in the Sphere8 diary, and every year we’ve been successful in taking home at least one award – this year was no different with Sphere8 accepting not one but two Highly Commended awards for both Small and Large Commercial Project of the Year!

Of all the rooms in our homes, bathrooms are the most often overlooked. It's easy to think of these rooms as purely functional - there seems to be enough to consider when choosing between jacuzzi baths and waterfall shower heads without over-thinking the aesthetics. However, with Sphere8 resin wall finishes and floors you can forever banish white tiles, dirty grouting, and seahorse motifs - and create a soothing, relaxing environment to unwind in with your very own home spa. 

Last night’s celebration of light saw friends and colleagues from throughout the industry come together in honour of Diwali, for a fantastic evening with Tom Dixon. We welcomed industry-specialists for a unique evening with a talk by Tom on his diverse and inspiring product ranges – particularly his world-renowned lighting collections. Very fitting for a party recognising the festival of light celebrated by millions around the world.

This year’s London Build Expo was a really enjoyable experience for the Sphere8 team – we were shortlisted for two awards at the London Construction Awards and had an amazing evening with over 200 industry specialists; we then headed along to Day Two of the London Build Expo and made a huge number of great new contacts; but perhaps most exciting was our introduction to Chicks with Bricks at London Build’s “Women in Construction” Morning Tea – a really inspirational morning…

Given one of our DesignSphere projects has just been nominated for Small Commercial Project of the Year, we thought this was the perfect time to shine the light on our most innovative of flooring systems! The DesignSphere system combines all the physical properties of a Sphere8 resin floor, with a seamless bespoke image that answers the client’s brief. From maps of Narnia and tromp l’oeil leaves to our latest project recreating vintage tiles, there’s nothing we won’t consider! Ever since we were introduced to Goldfinger Factory through their collaboration with Tom Dixon, we have been in awe of the work they do as part of the local community – turning waste materials and wasted talent into, well, gold! Whether that takes the form of upcycled furniture or pieces for their new Trellick range designed by Tom himself. Either way their work is hugely deserving of recognition and we were thrilled when we worked out a way we could collaborate with them! Before we’re ready to reveal what we’re working on though, we thought it was right to take a good look at all they’ve already achieved…

Sphere8 had an amazing night out last week, as we attended the 2016 Restaurant and Bar Design Awards at the Old Truman Brewery. Now in its eighth year, these awards are a globally recognised competition dedicated to the design of food and beverage spaces - so we were obviously thrilled to be involved in a short-listed project with Virgile & Partners for the Birmingham Harvey Nichols restaurant. 

Last night we welcomed nearly 500 people on site at Ladbroke Grove to celebrate London Design Festival with a unique Harvest Festival party, in partnership with Tom Dixon. The real focus was on Tom's collaboration with Goldfinger Factory - an incredible organisation that seeks to "turn waste into gold in deprived communities". It was an exceptional evening...
