Delve into the different sustainable systems at Sphere8 and how we combine beauty with sustainability.
At Sphere8, we pride ourselves on innovation–designing, creating and installing new systems to meet client needs. Part of this innovation is our commitment to sustainability. We put this at the forefront of our development; creating new systems to reduce our environmental impact while emphasising design and style.
In our systems, we use a plant-based biopolymer resin, made from renewable materials. The use of this sustainable resin brings the benefits we’re known for with our floors: soft and warm underfoot, unparalleled comfort. This is compared to the hardness of petrochemical-based epoxy resin floors or energy-intensive cement based products. The systems discussed in this blog are BrecciaSphere Lite, EPI Superbase Cortica and EPI Corestone Nature.

BrecciaSphere Lite is an award winning, sustainable resin floor system. Featuring one 1-litre recycled plastic bottle shred per square metre, this floor emulates the look of polished concrete and provides the intrinsic benefits of poured resin flooring. After winning the Surface of the Year award at the Surface Design Awards earlier this year, there has been increased interest in this beautiful, sustainable system. The recycled bottle shred floats to the surface when installed and creates a stunning liquid stone effect.

EPI Superbase Cortica is a carbon negative seamless poured floor. As the exclusive distributor of EPI resin flooring systems in the UK, we are proud to showcase and install this range of sustainable systems. There is an added cork aggregate in this floor, giving it a beautiful visual and physical texture. The cork aggregate is created from the bark of cork trees, which has a very low environmental impact. The CO2 sequestration from the cork forests results in the product being carbon negative.

Growing in popularity, the EPI Corestone Nature system is an excellent resin alternative to clients looking for the appearance of concrete, without the environmental impact of energy-intensive cement materials. The sustainable floor features a special hybrid resin technology, and is textured trowelled on, making for the unique look and feel of EPI Corestone Nature. It is an extremely durable floor, available in a range of solid and blend colours, making it perfect for both commercial and residential environments.
