Carnival Spirit! Colourful resin floors at Sphere8…

Turquoise resin walls by Sphere8

Here in Ladbroke Grove this weekend can only mean one thing – CARNIVAL! The annual Notting Hill Carnival parades straight past our site here and every year we are blown away by the excitement, energy and enthusiasm that surrounds the event. The other thing that immediately comes to mind (along with food, music and dancing!) is the riotous display of colour that Carnival inspires. So as a tribute to our lively neighbours this weekend, we thought we’d look at our most colourful project to date…

Local inspiration

Here in Ladbroke Grove this weekend can only mean one thing – CARNIVAL! The annual Notting Hill Carnival parades straight past our site here and every year we are blown away by the excitement, energy and enthusiasm that surrounds the event. The other thing that immediately comes to mind (along with food, music and dancing!) is the riotous display of colour that Carnival inspires. So as a tribute to our lively neighbours this weekend, we thought we’d look at our most colourful project to date…

Turquoise tones

One of our more recent projects is the first to come to mind – a stunning Chelsea apartment with some of the most colourful floors and walls we’ve seen in a while! The chosen colours were Sugar, Noir Extra, Ottoman and Turquoise – creating three beautiful and completely different bathrooms. Our favourites were undoubtedly the Ottoman and Turquoise – vibrant ocean blues and greens fit for locations far more exotic than the London Embankment! Ottoman is a vibrant green inspired by the similar hue used in mosaics of the early Ottoman Empire, whilst Turquoise is pure reflection of the popular stone. These gorgeous colours work wonderfully with clean silver and white bathroom fittings and make us think of much sunnier climes…

A pastel rainbow

On the opposite end of the spectrum is a project from many years ago… Our installation at a family home in 2011 featured various pastel colours throughout – Rose Quartz, Peridot and Opal – as well as one vibrant shock of Citrine yellow! These different colours were featured throughout the house on various floors, but all united by the stunning original staircase that rose through them all. We love the inclusion of pastel colours in a very traditional building – all set off by their incredible art collection that really united the crazy floor colours and luxurious interior aesthetic.

Standout yellow flooring

Another yellow project that is particularly striking is our installation at Peyton & Byrne Bakery in South East London. This stand out floor is actually a bespoke Motion blend that was so widely admired we decided to add it to our standard colour range. Blending two yellow hues means it is bright and vibrant but not too stark.

New Carnival Colour Collection

Our Sphere8 colour range features a bright collection of shades, all named after various Jewels. Rose Quartz, Opal and Peridot are the three palest colours in pale pink, blue and green respectively. Topaz and Turquoise are our two blue shades – Topaz is the slightly darker and gentler of the two. The final three are Citrine, Amber and Garnet – taking us through yellow, orange and red. All three have been popular shades for both commercial and residential projects, but they are definitely a very acquired taste!

Most importantly, we want to remind our clients that any colour is possible and they can take their inspiration from anywhere. So head down to carnival and be inspired this weekend – we look forward to creating a Carnival collection pretty soon…
